Herd Health

Welcome to the NYSCHAP Certification Section

To become NYSCHAP certified, veterinarians need to contact the NYSCHAP coordinator, Dr. Melanie Hemenway at 585-313-7541 or email melanie.hemenway@agriculture.ny.gov. Veterinarians need to be familiar with the basics and objectives of the NYSCHAP program and complete two farm reviews with a NYS field veterinarian in their area. These reviews will be evaluated by the field vet and the program coordinator to assure the private veterinarian is knowledgeable and comfortable with the program process of doing risk assessments, goal setting and herd planning.

Two virtual herds are offered as examples of doing on farm reviews for practice or used as a substitute for one of the two farm reviews needed for certification.
