Equine - not pregnant PMSG: Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin <250 mIU/mL
Equine - pregnant PMSG: Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin >600 mIU/mL

Result Interpretation: Reference values (domestic horse): Pregnancy 45-100 days greater than 600 mIU/mL Non-pregnant/pregnant outside test date range less than 250 mIU/mL PMSG is produced by endometrial cups produced by the pregnant mare uterus. The endometrial cups are present from ~40 to ~120 days of pregnancy. The endometrial cups will stay in place until their normal regression at ~120 days even if the fetus is reabsorbed or aborted after they have formed. Therefore mares that have experienced pregnancy loss between 40 and 120 days may have false positive PMSG results. PMSG levels should be within the normal range for pregnant mares between days 45 - 100 of pregnancy. Mares will generally be in the "not pregnant" range at less than 40 days and greater than 120 days, even when pregnant. Pregnancy should be confirmed after 90 days with estrone sulfate (which is produced by the fetoplacental unit) or by palpation and/or ultrasound. This test cannot be used for donkeys.
