Comment: The clinical signs associated with EHV-5 may include fever, pharyngitis, enlarged lymph nodes, or other upper respiratory signs. Recently, Williams et al. (2007 and 2013) showed that the virus causes a condition known as equine multinodular pulmonary fibrosis (EMPF).

This service is performed pursuant to an agreement with Roche Molecular Systems.


Lab Section: Molecular Diagnostics

Description: Detects Equine herpesvirus type 5 (EHV-5) only. Request the Gamma-EHV panel for EHV-2 and 5 testing.

Min Sample Volume: 2g tissue; 2 mL EDTA blood; 10 mL tracheal wash; 1 mL supernatant

Collection Container: Swab in sterile vial with 2-3 drops sterile saline or in viral transport media; DO NOT PLACE IN BACTERIAL TRANSPORT MEDIA; Other samples in leak-proof container

Coolant: Refrigerate

Test Target: Nucleic Acid

Test Days: M - F
