Lab Section: Molecular Diagnostics
Description: The test is designed to identify canine distemper virus (CDV) in dogs and other carnivores with acute respiratory disease. It uses the RT-qPCR molecular method to amplify and detect a short region from the nucleocapsid (N) gene of CDV.tects virus RNA through molecular amplification
Min Sample Volume: 5 ml urine, 1 g tissue, 1 swab
Collection Container: Submit swabs in sterile, sealed vials with several drops of saline added, to prevent desiccation in in commercial virus transport media. Bacterial transport medias are not appropriate. Cotton, plastic, wood-handled, and Dacron and other synthetic swabs are all acceptable. Calcium alginate swabs should be avoided. Submit urine or tissues in a screw topped vial.
Coolant: Refrigerate. Ship overnight on ice packs.
