Equine Herpes Virus Update 2011
Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) and Equine Herpes Myeloencephalitis (EHM) have
been in the spot light due to the most recent outbreak in
the Western part of the US. The AHDC is one of the laboratories performing the rt-PCR test for detection of EHV 1. more...
Genetic Testing for Lavender Foal Syndrome

An assay to detect the deletion associated with LFS has been developed and is now available through the Animal Health Diagnostic Center at Cornell University. more...
The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory offers testing of a wide range of animal pathogens using molecular based methods, such as conventional and quantitative PCR and restriction digestion analysis.

- Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus*
(detection and typing) - Canine Herpes Virus-1
- Chlamydia psittaci
- Classical Swine Fever Virus
- Clostridium perfringens
- Coxiella burnetii (Q-Fever)
- Ehrlichia canis
- Equine Herpes Virus-1*
- Escherichia coli genotyping
- Feline Coronavirus
- Listeria monocytogenes
- Lyme Disease (B. burgdorferi)
- Mycobacterium avium avium
- Mycobacterium avium complex
- Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease)
- Mycobacterium bovis
- Neorickettsia risticii*
(previously known as Ehrlichia risticii) - Rhodococcus equi
- Streptococcus equi*
- Swine Influenza Virus
Genetic testing is available for:
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including conventional and quantitative PCR thermocyclers, as well as high-throughput automated extraction and liquid handling systems.
The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory operates within a Quality Assurance System that complies with the 2003 Essential Requirements of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory also undergoes proficiency testing conducted by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory. In addition to routine testing, the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory performs surveillance testing for Avian Influenza Virus, Avian Paramyxovirus-1/Exotic Newcastle Disease, and Classical Swine Fever Virus.
